********************************

Son of Peter, Jr. and Lucinda (Wilmoth) Billings.
Feb. 11, 1866, married his widowed neighbor, Elizabeth "Rachel" Fowler Certain, in DeKalb Co., TN. Rachel, came into the marriage with a son, Macky Clouse, and a daughter, Inez Certain.
Jim and Rachel had two children together, George Dibrell (named after his commander in the C.S.A.) and Mary S. (Mollie)Billings.
Rachel, was murdered, by sixteen year old, John Presswood, in 1870. She is the subject of the "Last Legal Hanging in DeKalb County" http://www.tngenweb.org/dekalb/presswood.htm.
He married Mary Culwell, March 27, 1874, in DeKalb Co., TN; they had four children together: Joe, John W.(Luella Pumphrey), Eliza A., and Thomas Billings.
There is some confusion as to Jim's movements. It is known he went to Nebraska, Missouri, and back to Tennessee.
Perhaps he left for Nebraska, after Rachel was murdered, and returned to Tennessee, marrying Mary Culwell, and then to Missouri.
He returned to DeKalb County, TN, in his later years. He lived with family members "in turn".
A Billing's family member, of advanced age, remembers Jim, as being tall and slender, with dark hair. Another member of the family recalls Jim told her mother to "never wear blue".
