FORSYTH -- Scott Douglas Allison, 77, of Forsyth, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 1,2017 while at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Scott was born on December 6, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Lucien E. Allison and Ruth E. (Dawson) Allison. Scott lived in Waukegan during his early years during which time his sister Sandra was born.
Scott's Father was a college classmate of Charles Walgreen, Jr. Mr. Walgreen hired Scott's Father as a Walgreen Store Manager and Pharmacist in downtown Chicago. After several years, Walgreen transferred the Allison family to Keego Harbor, Michigan. Scott had many happy memories of carefree times spent with friends in Michigan's beautiful lakes and forests.
Eventually, the Allisons were transferred to Decatur where Scott's father was the Manager and Pharmacist for the Walgreen downtown store in the Citizen's building. The Allison Family joined Wesley Methodist Church.
In 1955, Scott attended Lakeview High School where, as a freshman fullback, he scored three touchdowns and one extra point to help beat a team 32-0. In 1957, Scott was elected Lakeview's most valuable football player and 1958 captain. He was also selected on the Central Conference all-star football team, the all-city team, and was accorded honorable mention on the Chicago Daily News all-state team. Scott had other football awards and many track awards for the 440 and 880 races.
Scott attended Southern Illinois University for two years. During that time, he wrote a letter every day to his high school sweetheart, Linda Sue Wolf, until she joined him at SIU. The couple married on March 19, 1961. They have two daughters.
Scott joined Temple Baptist Church, Decatur, where Linda Sue was a member. He became a Trustee of the Church and was active in many events. Most recently, the couple attend Riverside Baptist Church.
Scott worked at Bridgestone-Firestone for 30 years before retiring. However, he then became the family caregiver - eventually caring, through the years, for his father, his mother, his father- in-law, his mother-in-law and his wife. When often told that he "should have been a doctor," Scott would reply that he'd "rather have been a nurse."
In later years, Scott traveled throughout the U.S. with his wife to help her with her work consulting to senior living facilities, hospitals, and healthcare developers. He was a valuable and popular "unpaid contributor" to her work and enjoyed sightseeing in the 25 states where they worked. The couple also enjoyed vacations on many islands and foreign countries.
Scott is survived by his wife, Linda Sue of Forsyth; daughters, Sheri Sue Allison of Decatur and Lesa Lee Hassinger (Mark) of Maroa; grandson Brandon Scott Allison and his wife Elena Santomenno of St. Louis; grandsons Paul Hassinger of Illiopolis and Brodie Hassinger of Maroa; and granddaughter Elisabeth Hassinger of Maroa.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sandra.
Scott's Family would like to thank Dr. Dennis Rademacher and his Staff for their many years of excellent service to Scott.
The Family would also like to thank the wonderful Staff who cared for Scott during his illnesses and stays at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur Memorial Hospital, and Willowbrook Assisted Living in Effingham. At the hospitals, Scott revealed an unknown talent for singing rock and roll, country, or gospel songs for the Staff when they provided the music.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 North Oakland Ave., Decatur, IL 62526. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7,2017 at Brintlinger and Earl.
