Christopher is recorded in the document, "Descriptive and Historical Register of Enlisted Soldiers of the Army," (this document was for the Mexican American War, which ended in 1848).
It is recorded that he enlisted in Syracuse (NY) 9 March 1849. He was assigned to 8th Infantry, under Lt. Russell
The same record indicates that, as of 5 June 1849, he was listed as "deserted."
An undocumented record in the Skinner collection at the Niagara County Historical Society lists his death as a 19 February 1849.
There are 2 men named Christopher Columbus who fall into the “possibility range” of being this Christopher Columbus Skinner, son of Zeri Skinner. One, being of Camden, Oneida county, NY and the other who went to Michigan.
However, extensive research has shown that neither of them can be conclusively connected to Zeri Skinner, as documentation indicates otherwise.
Thus, as a result of this research, as of December 2017, there is no documentation to otherwise prove the death of Christopher Columbus Skinner, son of Zeri Skinner, so we must conclude that he did die in 1849. More information is available at WikiTree and FamilySearch Tree websites.
