Jane Ellen Owens Gregory, 75, of Shawboro, NC died Monday, December 4, 2017 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born January 19, 1942 in Norfolk, VA to the late Thelbert Ernest Owens and Alice Florence Taylor Owens and was the wife of Gene A. Gregory. Jane retired from Central Elementary School in Currituck after many years of teaching. She was a loyal and dedicated member of Providence Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and was in the choir for over forty years. She enjoyed the camaraderie of the Currituck Red Hat Society and was an avid gardener.
In addition to Gene, her husband of fifty-nine years, she is survived by two daughters, Becky Gregory Gurganus (Neal) of Camden and Melinda Gregory Padilla (Larry) of Kill Devil Hills; a grandchild Shane Maize of Kitty Hawk; a sister Peggy Owens Iwert of SC; a brother, Tommy Owens of GA; and her special canine companion, Pepper. She was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Blake Gregory and a sister Judy Owens.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 ~ 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and following the service in the lobby of the funeral home. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
