Lucy Raye Estes Wilson Of Chanute, Kansas Formerly of Pineville, Arkansas

Lucy Raye Estes Wilson went to be with Jesus December 1, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Lucy was born June 9, 1919 in Newburg, Arkansas. She was the third of seven children and the only daughter born to Ida and Albert Estes. She spent most of her growing up years on the family farm on Piney Creek near Forty-Four, Arkansas. After she graduated from Calico Rock High School, Arkansas in 1941, Lucy moved to Wichita, Kansas to work at Boeing Company and later at Beech Aircraft to do her part in support of the war effort. Lucy married her childhood friend and sweetheart, Donald Wilson on July 5, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas, while he was home on leave after returning from the war. They lived in Denver, Colorado, near Buckley Air Field, until the war ended and Donald’s enlistment in the Army Air Corps was up. They made their home in Pineville for 7 years and then lived in Wichita, Kansas for the next 24 years where Lucy’s full-time job was taking care of her husband and their 5 children. After her children were grown, she worked for Derby School District 260 in the lunchroom until her husband’s job moved them to Chanute, Kansas where she made a home for herself and her husband for the next 42 years.

Lucy loved God, her husband and her children. She was a prolific at crochet, and avid flower gardener, a wonderful cook and a good neighbor. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and kept busy camping and traveling with her husband. She loved playing board games, card games and croquet with her husband, family and friends and just visiting. She considered voting a duty and she and Donald worked their vacations around voting day.
