Hanson, Karen Puls

Karen Puls Hanson, age 86, of Sheboygan, died on July 29, 2015 at Covenant Home at Pine Haven Christian Home.

Karen was born December 27, 1928, in Sheboygan. She was the only child of Eugene and Esther Kringle Puls. She was baptized, schooled, and a confirmed member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sheboygan, where she has been a lifetime member.

She attended North High School and graduated from Washington High in New London, WI in 1946 - but her heart remained with North High School. She then studied and graduated as an Infant Nurse from The Cradle, an International Adoption Agency in Evanston, IL. She worked in a number of private home cases for several years in Wisconsin and Illinois.

On a blind date, she met and then married Richard A. Hanson, on December 17, 1949 in Waukegan IL where they were both employed. She was always "his girl" and the "love of his life." In 1952 they relocated back to Sheboygan. Karen was a homemaker and mother by choice. Karen was a devoted mom to her children, a loving grandma to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She volunteered for their school and church activities, later followed by community activities, which included Girl Scout Council for 26 years and the Bethesda Thrift Store for 27 years. She enjoyed her job as a poll worker in Sheboygan, Ward 15, for 20 years.

She loved spending time with their many friends, including her Tuesday "Hellmitt Club" of some 65 years plus and their North Avenue McDonald's morning breakfast gang, many of whom she considered her second family. She enjoyed being creative in her home, in handicrafts, and especially her yard and gardens.

Karen is survived by her loving husband Richard, of 65 years, their four children David Hanson, Louise and Martin Meyer, Julie and Jeff Leffin, and Paul and Jennifer Hanson. Her surviving grandchildren include Lucas Leffin and his children Elyse, R. Grady, Kaeden, and Grier, Andrew Meyer, Eric Meyer and his son Parker and fiancé Becky Amann, Lindsey and Mike Buxbaum and their daughter Claire, and Stephen Wallo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved first grandson Paul Martin Meyer.

Karen's personally planned memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Pine Haven Christian Home, 540 Mark Avenue, Sheboygan Falls. Pastor Brett Matz of St. Mark's Lutheran Church will officiate. The family will greet friends from 1 - 2 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
