Gladys Hagood Gadson Fields 81, of Burton, widow of Deacon Isaiah "Shedrick" Gadson and Deacon Hardy W. Fields, Sr., died Monday, December 4, 2017, at her residence.

Funeral Services: 11:30 AM Monday, December 11, 2017 at New Hope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 67 Parris Island Gateway in Burton, SC. Burial will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Gladys “Sissy” Hagood Gadson-Fields, daughter of the late Jim and Beatrice Hagood was born on January 9, 1936, in Beaufort County, SC. On January 26, 1952, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Deacon Isaiah “Shedrick” Gadson, and of this union eight children were born. On Monday, December 4, 2017 at her home in Burton, SC, surrounded by her children, Gladys answered the Master’s call and slipped quietly away at 6:15 p.m.

At an early age, Gladys accepted Christ, was baptized and joined the New Church of Christ Ministry where she labored diligently in God’s vineyard. Because of her journey, she persuaded her mother, the late Beatrice Hagood, to “taste and see that the Lord is good”, so she too accepted Christ as her personal savior. Gladys later moved her membership and joined New Hope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served as the president of the Junior Usher Board ministry, co-founder of the Choralaires Choir, and founder of the Charles Wright Sunbeam Choir.

“Sissy”, as she was fondly called, was a homemaker. She never met a stranger and supported the children in her community with toys and clothing. Wanting to do more, she decided to spread her wings and served in the capacity of supervisor over the janitorial services for 10 years at Beaufort-Jasper Career Educational Center. After retiring from the Career Center, she worked with the Beaufort County PALS Summer Nutrition Program.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by husbands, Deacons Isaiah Gadson, Sr. and Hardy Fields, Sr.; sons, Vernon and Minister Reginald Gadson; brothers, Apostle Fred Brown, Pastors Jim and David Hagood,Ernest Hagood, James Samuels and Willie Hagood; sisters, Delia Hagood,Tessie Donaldson and Lillie Williams; and one granddaughter, Keiwana P. Wilson.
