Indian indrustralist and philanthropist. He was best-known as playing an active part in the development of the Tata indrustrial empire and was an active philanthropist. He was also a pioneer of the Indian Olympic movement and financed the Indian contingent to Paris, in 1924. After his wife died in 1931, of leukaemia, he established The Lady Tata Memorial Fund for the study into the diseases of the blood and in 1932, set up a trust fund for the learning of the advancement of disaster relief and other philanthropic purposes. He was knighted in 1910.
