Joseph Paul Becker
March 15, 1946 - November 30, 2017
Joseph Paul Becker (MSgt, USAF retired) passed away on November 30, 2017 at the age of 71. He was born in Lakewood, New York, the oldest of four children, to Clifford and Mary Becker. A 20 year veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a logistician, his military career embraced his love for travel, allowing him to go to New York, Turkey, Taiwan, Texas, Thailand, California, and Saudi Arabia. In Taiwan, he met and married the love of his life, Kiku. Joe's hobbies included fishing, guns and target shooting, airplanes, crossword puzzles, and talking about politics. He was also known for being a Jeopardy expert. Joe was an accomplished athlete, participating in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, and bowling. He was also an avid sports fan throughout his life, passing down his love of the San Francisco Giants through multiple generations. Atwater, California was his home for the last 44 years where he lovingly raised his daughter, Kathy (son-in-law Shane Phillips), and son, Tony, as well as four grandchildren: Lindsey Phillips, Allison Thomas, Matthew Phillips, and Joseph Becker. He is remembered warmly by friends and family for his keen intelligence, generous heart, and wonderfully goofy sense of humor, but most of all for his constant support and dedication to the lives of his family members. Joe joyfully engaged in holiday gatherings and vacation trips with his children and grandchildren, and always cheered on his grandchildren by coming to every sports activity. He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings (Kip Clifford Becker and Mary Becker) while survived by his brother David Becker, his wife Kiku, and all his children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 7th at Atwater United Methodist at 9:30am with a military funeral honors interment ceremony at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe's name to either the Winton VFW or Atwater United Methodist Church.
