EMIL MAILHO Longtime Fremont and Bay Area resident, passed away Wednesday, March 7, at the age of 98. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lola and son Gary. Emil and Lola were married for over 70 years. He is survived by his son Bob Mailho; his younger brother John Mailho; his nephews and nieces; Tim Mailho, Greg Mailho, Frank Mailho, Jr., Steve Mailho, Ron Mailho, Bob Whitaker, Laurie Matarazza, Wendy Shields, and many grandnephews and nieces. Emil was a successful minor league and Pacific Coast League baseball player. His outstanding eighteen year minor league career included seven years with the Oakland Oaks and San Francisco Seals in the 30's and 40's. He had an amazing lifetime batting average of .318. On August 13, 2006, during an A's game at McAFee Coliseum, the Oakland A's honored him as one of the oldest living members of their team, having played for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1936. After retiring from baseball, he became a general contractor and longtime building inspector for the cities of Fremont and Dublin. He was also an honorary Mason for over 50 years. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by family and friends.
