A farmer, he enjoyed gardening at home and going to the horse races. He was a member of Georgetown First United Methodist and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his children, Tony James, Rosemary (Scott) Slaughter and Trixie (George) Black; sisters, Carrie Hoffman, Bonnie (Donald) Lynn and Betty Ann (Charles) Clifton; as well as eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lima; brothers, Lewis James, George James and John James. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown, Kentucky.
