She was born on March 4, 1925, in Valley Stream, NY to Ira and Anne (Danneman) Hobson.
She was raised in Poughkeepsie, NY and graduated from high school there. She attended New Tribes Mission school and did mission work in Alaska in the late 1940's.
Bernice was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed making pies around the holidays and trying new recipes. She loved animals, especially St. Bernards and owned several throughout her lifetime. Bernice taught Sunday School for over 50 years in the various churches she attended.
Her husband Wilbur, whom she married on April 15, 1951, preceded her in death on February 18, 2012.
In 1975, Bernice and Wilbur moved to Salem, from Carle Place, Long Island, NY. They were members of the Salem First Friends Church. Together they raised five children, Linda (Bob) Manypenny of Salem, OH, Carol (Ted) Denson of Chatham, IL, David Nelson of Toluca Lake, CA, Donna Dewey of Columbus, OH, Jim (Melissa) (Nelson) Shannonhouse of Marysville, OH; three grandchildren, Rob (Ana) Manypenny of Beaver Falls, PA, Lynsey (Joe) Graham of Salem, and Shane Shannonhouse of Marysville. Three great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Zoe, Zackary and Madeline.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Hobson and an infant granddaughter, Reganne Shannonhouse.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services.
