Helen was born in Marytown to the late Joseph and Anna (Schoenborn) Schaefer on June 29, 1927. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School. On April 12,1950 she was united in marriage to Frank Schad at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marytown. Frank preceded her in death on May 28, 1998. Helen and Frank farmed in the town of Schleswig until their retirement. She retired from Tecumseh in 1989 after 23 years. Helen was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was active with the Christian Women. Helen volunteered for many years at the Salvatorian Center, New Holstein. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, embroidering, reading, and baking breads and desserts. Everyone that knew her, knew her family meant everything to her.
She is survived by her children: Diane (Larry) Apel, Sheboygan Falls; Michael (Mickey) Schad, MO; Glen (Crystal) Schad, AZ; Lee (Bev) Schad, MO; Gloria (Peter) Scharenbroch, St. Nazianz; Doreen (Joe) Schmidt, St. Nazianz; Brian Schad, Town of Rhine; Karen (Fritz) Plagemann, School Hill; her daughter-in-law, Bobbi Schad, Sheboygan; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; a sister, Erma Ramminger; 3 brothers-in-law; Robert Schad, Erv Madson, and Glenroy (Brenda) Franzen; sister-in-law, Janice Schad. Helen is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Stephen Schad; daughter-in-law, Brenda Schad; her brothers: Erwin, Gilbert, Eddie, William, & Herman; her sister, Esther; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral Mass for Helen will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church (413 Fremont St.,Kiel) with burial to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St., Kiel). The visitation will continue on Thursday at SS. Peter & Paul on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:45 am.
