Born on February 26, 1935 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Harvie and Lillian Presswood Shook. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers; Carmel, Carlos, Homer, Johnny, and Hubert Shook; his sisters; Marie Shook, Wilma Shook Bare, and Thelma Shook Gibson; his grandson; Michael Dale Shook; and his great granddaughter; Lacey Elizabeth Johnson.
Dale was member of the Belview Baptist Church in Cranberry, a founding member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, and an ordained deacon. He was the owner and operator of Shook’s Auto in Spruce Pine for many years and also taught auto diesel mechanics at Mayland Community College until his retirement. The greatest joys of his life were the Lord, his wife, his family and he especially enjoyed fishing.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of sixty-two years; Lueretta Pritchard Shook of the home; his daughter; Debbie S. Lacey and husband, Bruce of Newland; his son; Michael Shook and wife, Jessica of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Jennifer Lacey Johnson of Wallace, NC; Stephen Lacey of Charlotte; Samantha Shook Wilson of Burnsville; Adrian and Brandon Shook of Spruce Pine; Somer Ray and Abby Robinson of Burnsville; great grandchildren; Aubrey Wilson, Pearson Johnson; Emma, Sadie, Maggie, and Harper Robinson; and Eli and Cammie Ray and several nieces and nephews.
