Ronald McConnell of Greenfield, Missouri, passed away in his home at the age of 79 years. Ronald was born to Jasper and Lena McConnell. He attended the Cave Grade School and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1945.

He moved to Springfield and attended the Southwest Missouri State Teacher's College (now Missouri State University) for one year before returning to Greenfield. He applied for and became one of the youngest insurance agents ever hired by MFA (Shelter) Insurance Companies. He started work for them in 1946 at the age of 19, the same year the Company was founded. In 2006 he helped them celebrate their 60th anniversary by being the Guest of Honor at their celebration.

He met Mary Johnson of Niangua, Missouri, in 1953. They started dating in early 1954, were engaged by April and married in August. They celebrated 52 years of marriage in 2006. Mary taught school for nine years before joining him in the insurance business. Where you saw one, the other was not far behind.

Ronald attended the First Christian Church of Greenfield where he had become a member during his teenage years. He had been an elder there for 33 years. He rarely missed a Sunday service.

One of Ronald's joys was his farm east of Greenfield. He loved taking care of his cattle and putting around on the land. In 1996 Ronald's farm was honored with the distinction of being a Century Farm, a farm that has been in his family for more than 100 years.

Ronald is survived by his wife Mary, his son, James Sidney "Sid" and his wife, Kathy, and their three daughters, Kaitlyn, Jami and Chelsea, all of Marshfield, Missouri; his daughter, Mary Helen Goodwin and her husband, Greg, and their two daughters, Jenna Karli and Kelsey, all of Jacksonville, Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held March 27, 2007, in the Greenfield High School Gymnasium with Pastor Joe Hampton and Johnson Hughes officiating.
