Marion Rogers, age 75, passed away at the Terrace at Denison on November 13, 2017 following a prolonged illness. Born in Yonkers, NY on August 8, 1942 to Henry and Augusta Hierstetter, she was the younger of two daughters.

Marion’s lifelong passion was art. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon’s College of Fine Arts and earned her Masters in Fine Arts from the College of New Rochelle. During her married years in Larchmont, NY, she volunteered as an Art Therapist for the elderly serving what was at the time, the most underprivileged areas in Harlem and the South Bronx, NY. Marion later worked as an elementary school art teacher and an office manager.

She painted in oils and acrylic, and drew with pastels, water color pencils and mixed media. True to her creative spirit, Marion never stopped pushing the boundaries of her craft by experimenting with new techniques and materials. Her work appeared in exhibitions in New York City, Westchester County, NY, Connecticut and Texas, and she authored and illustrated a children’s book called George the Spider, published in an anthology called Portfolio ’78. She relocated to Sherman, TX in 1998.

Marion’s personal passions were her garden and her rescue dogs, and she shared her home with as many as five at a time. Mixed breeds of all shapes and sizes: pit bull, terrier, dachshund, shepherd-retriever and spaniel – she loved them fiercely and dreamed of owning a no-kill shelter. She was happiest with her “pack” scampering around her as she tended her free spirited, English-inspired, backyard cottage garden.

Marion leaves behind her daughters, Heather Rogers-Dean of Sherman, TX and Holly Rogers of Westport, CT and their husbands, Tony Dean and Zoran Hruskar, seven grandchildren, Hannah, Evan, Hailee, Dylan, Maya, Jessica and Lauren and three great-grandchildren, Liam, Bennett and Emily.

In keeping with Marion’s wishes, a private memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to or adopting from The Animal Refuge Foundation (ARF), a no-kill sanctuary for dogs, where Marion adopted her two beloved dachshunds.
