Dorothy M. Biss, Aged 72, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on December 01, 2017 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Ormond Beach. Dorothy was the daughter of Jesse W. and Emma Loveta Tankersley, born February 14, 1945, in St. Augustine, Florida. Dorothy grew up in New Smyrna and Ormond Beach and graduated from Seabreeze High School. She attended Daytona Beach Community College and also received her Real Estate Brokers license from the state of Florida. Dorothy was retired from the Volusia County School Board where she worked at Ormond Beach Middle School for many years. She was a devout Christian attending church regularly at The Chapel in Ormond Beach and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Ormond Beach chapter. In October of 1968, Dorothy married the man who swept her off her feet, Barrie J. Biss, a Navy Veteran and employee of the Ormond Beach Police Department, who retired with the rank of Sargent after over 34 and a half years. Together for over 49 years, they raised a son and daughter and loved to spend time with family and friends traveling, going out to dinners, remodeling homes, shopping, collecting, gardening, or attending various civic functions. Dorothy is survived by her son, Adam (Shayna) Biss of Palm Coast, FL; daughter Marci and her husband Stephen Surowitz of Petersburg, TN; granddaughters Caitlin Surowitz, Shelby Biss, Chloe' Biss, Alyson Biss, Emmalea Biss; brother Jessee (Linda) Tankersley of Oak Hill; one nephew, four nieces, and a number of other relatives and close friends. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. December 18, 2017 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. also at Volusia Memorial. Pastor David Sharp will officiate from The Chapel.
