Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon December 3rd from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Gregory officiating. Burial following the 1 p.m. services was beside his wife in the Garden of Peace at Smith County Memorial Gardens.
The last surviving of five children of the late Alfred Hamilton Marks who died at the age of 70 on October 15, 1965 and Amanda C. “Mandy C.” Gore Marks who died at the age of 92 on February 4, 1994, Mr. Marks was born July 7, 1928 in the Rome Community.
His three sisters preceded him in death, Alberta Marks Stillson, Christine Marks Coggins and Kathleen Marks Mayo as did his only brother, Alfred Gore Marks.
His wife of over sixty three years, Livingston native Mildred Joyce Warden Marks, died November 19, 2017, just thirteen days before her husband. They were wed August 22, 1954 in Rossville, Georgia.
Mr. Marks was a member of the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church at Elmwood.
He was a 1949 graduate of Smith County High School where he was a member of the Spanish and Latin Clubs.
While his uncle Albert Gore Sr. served in the United States Senate, Mr. Marks was employed in the Senate Post Office in Washington D.C.
He retired from Robertshaw Industries in Carthage.
Surviving are his two children; a daughter, Ann Marks Thompson and husband Ronnie of the Rawls Creek Community; son, Joey Marks and wife Kathy Lawson Marks of Carthage; six grandchildren, Priscila Thompson, Felicia Marks Watts, Sara Ann Thackxton and husband Brian Keith Thackxton, Rhonda Bell, William Thompson and wife Samantha, April Law and husband Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Jaxston, Octavia, Jazmin, Cooper, Spencer and Haylee.
