SOMONAUK — Gregory Alan Hanson, 70, of Somonauk, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, in his home with his family.

Greg was born Nov. 11, 1947, in Sandwich, the son of Harold and Myrtle (Wold) Hanson. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie Shumway, on Aug. 14, 1971, in Sandwich.

Greg was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich. He served as chairman on the Sandwich Community Hospital board.

He served in the U.S. Marines Reserves prior to earning his CPA. He went on to work at the Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm in Chicago for 10 years. He then pursued his dream of farming in Illinois, Wisconsin and Missouri.

Greg enjoyed playing euchre and watching the Green Bay Packers with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and boating. Although Greg was challenged with MS for 40 years, proving his strength, he never let it keep him down, always laughing, playing jokes and never giving up.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, of Somonauk; his children, Jaime (Esther) Hanson, of Waterman, Marisa (Jake Medgyesi) Hanson, of Leland, and Jess Hanson, of Leland; one grandson, Dominik Medgyesi; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lana Kupp.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich with Pastor Wayne Derber officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church, Open Door Rehabilitation Center or the charity of choice.
