Jan Tysen was possibly born between 1670 and 1680 at Kings Co., Long Island, New York.

He married Jannetje Evertse Van Gelder, daughter of Evert Hendricksen and Fytie Brouwer, before 1708.

On 6 October 1709 John Bowne of Middletown, Monmouth County conveys to Peter Tyssen of New Utrecht and John Tyssen of Brookland, both in Kings County, New York, for eight hundred pounds, land at Wegnatunk, in Monmouth County.

The deed is titled, "John Bowne to Peter Tyssen and Dirck Tyssen. However, Dirck Tyssen's name does not appear in the text of the deed. The name of John Tyssen appears along with that of Peter Tyssen.

On 5 January 1711 John Tyssen conveys to Peter Tyssen, for four hundred pounds, property in Monmouth County. (Presumably his share in the property purchased of John Bowne in 1709. A description of the physical property is not given).
