Eddie Joe Roberts, 72, longtime Lefors resident, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017 in Amarillo.

Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 2, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Pampa, with Cole Goldsmith, officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Heights Cemetery in Lefors, with Masonic graveside rites courtesy of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF&AM. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa.

Eddie was born March 2, 1945 in Pampa to A. G. and Corean Roberts. He grew up in and lived in Lefors, and when he was 17, he was hired by Texaco as an oilfield roustabout. He spent the rest of his life doing the work he enjoyed so much, working in various pumping jobs, including Windsor Well Servicing Company, and Curtis Well Service Company, where he reluctantly retired as general foreman in 2013 after 23 years of service. He continued in the oilfield as a consultant and other services. Eddie Joe's last working day in the oilfield was November 27, 2017, two days before his passing.

The Lefors Volunteer Fire Department was a big part of Eddie Joe's life. He joined as a volunteer at the age of 18, and served for over 50 years in most every position in the department, including Fire Chief for 22 years, as well as training director, safety officer, assistant chief, EMT, ambulance driver and gladly took over any job that needed to be done. He was loved by many people far and wide.

Eddie Joe was a Master Mason and a lifetime member of Pampa Lodge #966 AF&AM. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He knew every back road in the Texas Panhandle and surrounding areas. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him, especially the many members who served with him in the Lefors Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy of the home; four children, a son, Jody Roberts and wife Laurie of Plano, a daughter, Crystal Brown of Galveston, a son, Drayton Roberts of Canyon, a daughter, Kristy Kaylyn; a step-daughter, Machelle Massey and husband Justin of Amarillo; ten grandchildren and step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Art Roberts of Richardson, a sister, Wanda Carter of Amarillo, and a sister, Bet Garland of Burkburnett; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Mandy Roberts in February of 2017.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, December 1, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa.
