Vonda Bivert Evans lived life to the fullest until she passed on August 22, 2016 in Tulsa. Born on May 11, 1935 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, she was the only child of her parents Raymond E. and Eula Wadsworth Bivert. She graduated from Stillwater High School in 1953 and maintained life long friendships with over a dozen high school classmates who named themselves the "Golden Girls" and continued to enjoy their biennial reunions over the years. Vonda graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1957 with a degree from the College of Home Economics where she majored in Fashion Merchandising. While at OSU, she treasured her membership in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She has been a devoted Theta alumna and continued life long friendships with her Theta sisters. Upon graduation, Vonda was accepted into the Junior Executive training program with Foley's Department Store in Houston, Texas. She then worked at Kerr's Department Store in Oklahoma City before her marriage to W. Frank Evans on June 28, 1959. She and Frank spent most of their marriage living in Stillwater after starting out life in Perkins, Garber and Fairfax where Frank was a high school band director. Moving back to Stillwater in 1963, Vonda and Frank owned Evans Music Co. for many years. Always having been artistic, Vonda's career after the music store involved using her creative and artistic skills in the OSU Public Information Office and OSU Foundation. She finished up her career at Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater retiring not once but twice. She first was Director of Community Relations and then became the first Development Officer of the Meridian Technology Center Foundation. Over the years, Vonda and Frank enjoyed second homes at both Grand Lake and Keystone Lake. In 2009, they decided to scale down and make Tulsa their primary home. After Frank's passing on March 1, 2012, Vonda enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her only child, Julie Evans, who survives her. They made the most of every day together during the last four years. Vonda also devoted much of her time to producing colored pencil artwork, mainly commissioned portraits of children, which she loved doing. She became acquainted with the Tulsa art community and took an active role in the Tulsa Artists Guild. She was also a proud member of P.E.O. having been a member of Chapter EP in Stillwater and Chapter CC in Tulsa. Vonda was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tulsa and loved her Builders Sunday School Class where she made many dear friends who she cherished. A memorial service celebrating Vonda's life will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Tulsa. Vonda's wish for memorial contributions in lieu of flowers is a donation to the Vonda Evans Endowed Scholarship at Meridian Technology Center, 1312 S. Sangre Road, Stillwater, OK 74074.
