Mary Ann Rutherford passed away peacefully at her home in Mission Viejo on November 14, 2017 at the age of 93.

She was born December 1, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Parents Raymond and Gertrude Casto.

She has survived by her Children Jean Wall (spouse Jim), Mary Pinson (spouse Phil), Jim Rutherford, Tom Rutherford (spouse Lisa), Grandchildren: Devyn Pinson Holland, Nicholas Pinson (spouse Shizuka), Alyssa Rutherford, Wesley Wall, Samuel Wall and Jake Rutherford, Great-grandchildren-Logan Holland. Siblings are John Casto and Babrbar Mooney.

Mary Ann attended Judge High School in Salt Lake City, then Nurses Training School in San Francisco, earned her Bachelor’s degree at the College of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City.

As a Registered Nurse, 2nd Lt in the US Army, Hospice nurse and hospice volunteer upon retirement, she helped countless lives. Served as a nurse during after WWII in San Francisco, Pasadena, Menlo Park and Salt Lake City, Kaiser Permanente (hospice nurse).

In 1954, Mary Ann Married Samuel Rutherford.

Places of residence – Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Midland Michigan, Whittier CA, Hemet, CA, Anaheim CA, Mission Viejo, CA.

She loved listening to classical music and opera & Loved, Loved, Loved her garden.

Mary Ann was an Active volunteer at her church and her children's schools: library volunteer, Girl Scout volunteer, Society of the Sacred Heart, CFM Movement, and Cursillo Movement. She Traveled extensively with her husband Sam all over the United States and abroad.

Together Mary Ann and Sam raised four children at a time where the mother did almost all of the housework while volunteering at her church and in the community. She loved to laugh and dance and most of all loved to be with family. She and Sam took up square dancing later in life.

Services will be held at St. Bruno’s Church, Whittier CA. December 18th @ 10:30 am, Reception following immediately in the church hall.

Mary Ann will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery along side her Husband Samuel.
