Janet Sue (Hinkle) Spencer, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017, with family by her side in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held in Kansas City, Kansas at a future date with a family graveside service in Springfield, Missouri. Entrusted with the arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Janet was born July 24, 1936 to Ralph R. and Eunice (Guinn) Hinkle in Springfield, Missouri. She graduated from Rosedale High School in Kansas City, Kansas and St. Petersburg College, in Clearwater, Florida.

Janet married Wayne D. Spencer in 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri.

They owned and operated farms in Spring Hill, Kansas and Hartville, Missouri until 1983. The family then moved to Clearwater, Florida and she worked as an accountant until her retirement in 2001, when she returned to the Midwest to live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Janet was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was a loving caregiver to her entire family and always put them before herself. She was an avid reader, enjoyed following the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals teams, and loved a good cup of coffee.

Janet is survived by her four children, Susan L. (Robert) Hurlburt of Lakeland, Florida; Peggy L. (Michael) Emery of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Stacy G. Spencer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mark Ryan Spencer (A.J.) of Marion, Iowa; her grandchildren, Matthew R. Bruner, Mitchell R. Bruner, Christopher A. Emery, Julia M. Emery, Erin L. Emery, Aaliyah N. Beeson, Mia B. Owen, Allie B. Owen, Bowen R. Spencer; a great-grandson, Luke R. Bruner; her brothers, Ralph James (Kathryn) Hinkle of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; Richard L. (Kathy) Hinkle of Kansas City, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Judy Hinkle of Wellsville, Kansas; and six nieces and one nephew who all called her Aunt Sis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Jack E. Hinkle, and an infant sister Donna Lou Hinkle.
