According to the 1920 census, she was living in Council Bluffs at 12 years old and thus would have been born about 1908. Although her parents were both born in Iowa and lived in Iowa all of their adult lives, the South Dakota Birth Index 1856 - 1940 shows Huberta was born in South Dakota, the daughter of Adelbert Matheson and Anna Holubar. She left home between 1920 and 1930 as she no longer appeared with her parents in the 1930 census. It appears she was the only child the couple had. Her mother, Anna, died 25 February 1953 and her obituary shows Huberta as Mrs. Wesley Grote; he died 25 July 1962. Huberta is buried beside him. She later married Theodore J. Bunten; he died in December 1991.
