Douglas Owen Kennedy, 98, a resident of Country Meadows, Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2017 at Reading Hospital.

He was the widower of Evelyn (McClain) Kennedy.

Born December 14, 1918, in Wylam, Ala., he was a son of the late Douglas Harkness and Annie Laurie (Owen) Kennedy.

Douglas was a 1936 graduate of Hueytown High School, Hueytown, Ala.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War, ranking as Captain.

He was employed as a Petroleum Chemist for many years, retiring from Windsor Service, Inc. in 1984.

Douglas was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church, West Lawn, and a past member of Holy Cross United Methodist Church, Reading.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, exercising and traveling. A supreme family man, Doug's passion was spending time with family.

He is survived by his three children: Laura Kennedy, widow of Van C. Crouch, of Bel Air, Md.; Douglas Owen Jr., husband of Christine J. Kennedy, of Wyomissing and Pamela Kennedy, wife of Frank M. Ferrara, of Plymouth Meeting. Other survivors include his eight grandchildren: Erin M. (Wadkins), wife of Jimmie Redmon, Shannon L. Wadkins, fiancée of Waylon Smith, Douglas O. Kennedy III, Laurie B. (Kennedy), wife of Jason Woodward, Andrew R., husband of Melissa (Cornell) Kennedy, Jacob R. Kennedy, Christina M. (Ferrara), wife of William Jackson and Frank M. Ferrara Jr. There are also seven great-grandchildren: Jimmie III, Paige, Liam, Brody, Colby, Owen and Bradley.

Douglas was predeceased by his two brothers, Craig B. Kennedy and Newton E. Kennedy.

Services will be private in Laureldale Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
