Character actor. Real name Edward Russell Hicks. Appeared in nearly 300 films and TV-episodes over a 40 plus year period. His looks were perfect for the many military officers, attorneys, judges or business executives he was playing. Among his credits are "Charlie Chan in Shanghai" (1935), "The Toast of New York" (1937), "The Real Glory" (1939), "The Little Foxes" (1941), "Samson and Delila" (1949), "Man of Conflict" (1953) and "The Seventh Cavalry" (1956). He died from a heart attack after he was envolved in a traffic accident.
