Obituary for Gary Franklin Conner

Gary Franklin Conner, devoted husband and father and beloved brother, son, and longtime mentor and friend to many, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, November 27, 2017 surrounded by family at Cartersville Medical Center.

Gary, 59, was born in Hawkinsville, Ga. to the late Preston Franklin and Francis Paramore Conner. The middle child and only son, he was proceeded in death by his parents and oldest sister, Cathy Conner Gifford. Gary, a native of Cordele Ga., graduated from Crisp County High School in 1976 and retired after 35 years from Kone Inc. as an Elevator Service Manager, where he was associated with the Local 32 Elevator Union.

As an outdoor enthusiast in past years, Gary was an avid hunter that loved to spend his time in the woods with his son and friends. He also enjoyed spending his time fishing and boating and after retirement, set his sights on Florida to live out his life with his wife. As a man with many self taught skills, he enjoyed spending his time in his garage working, rebuilding, and fixing all things mechanical. Gary was also a great grill master where no meat ever stood a chance in his smoker. It was these traits that made him the husband, father, brother, friend, and provider that will live in our hearts for many years to come.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janis Carter Conner and his children; son, Dalas Franklin Conner and daughter, Deanna "Shelly" Schoenfelder. Also survived by his only granddaughter, Sage Marie Conner and younger sister, Patricia "Patty" Conner.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 1, 2017 at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive visitation from friends at Rainey Family Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 pm, prior to leaving for the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Gary respectfully requested donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation in his honor.
