Paul Haynie Jr.

Glendale, Utah

Paul Haynie Jr., 88 years old, returned to his heavenly home on November 20, 2017.

He was born to Paul and Verl Haynie in Douglas, Arizona on March 25, 1929.

Paul graduated from Juarez Academy High School in Colonial Juarez, Mexico and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University.

He earned various advanced degrees in both civilian and military disciplines, specializing in foreign trade.

He was a man of many talents and fulfilled various positions in church, community, and professional areas.

Paul was "hands on" with a keen mind and was industrious his whole life.

Paul served as one of the very first missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Uruguay Mission.

Following his mission, he became a special agent in the counter intelligence corps during the Korean conflict.

While on leave from his military service, he married Dorothy Vilate Woods on September 2, 1953 in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

He and Dorothy had seven children. After the death of Dorothy, Paul found a companion to share the rest of his life with in V. Edith Sapp whom he married on May 9, 1981.

Paul was a loving husband, a great partner, and life was always an adventure with Edith.

Paul was different things to people he came in contact with.

He was an honored father and a teacher of many things from serious to fun, a jokester and a daredevil.

He made wonderful things with few resources and had the imagination to make them work.

Paul brought out the best in others.

His confidence was due to successfully navigating the stormy seas of life, using his strong moral compass.

The church was his sextant, his testimony the star on which he kept his bearings.

Paul is survived by his wife, Edith, his sons Ben, Howard and Dan Haynie, daughters Vilate (Alan) Bethers, Virginia (Brad) Hall, Valerie Haynie, Annalisa Haynie, step-sons Wayne (Sandy) Hoover, Allen (Jody) Hoover; step-daughters Lorna Garrison, Katrin (Jon) Carter, Zerelda Crawford, numerous grandchildren/step grandchildren; brother Ivan (Darlene) Haynie; sisters Erlene (Larry) Richardson and Verla (James) Price.

He is predeceased by wife, Dorothy Vilate Woods, parents, Paul and Verl Haynie and step-daughter, Carolyn Williams.
