John was born and raised in Hollister and had been a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served as a military policeman in the United States Army. He had worked as a gas truck driver.

He loved gospel and blue grass music. He also enjoyed worshiping with his many friends at Welaka Baptist Church where he was a member. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Hoyt; and a daughter, Victoria Hoyt.

Surviving are his loving wife of 19 years, two sons, one daughter, five brothers, four sisters, eight grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Army will bestow military honors.
