She grew up on the family homeplace which was on the site of a battle during the French and Indian War.
--At age 17, she eloped with Warren Otis Drye, who was stationed in Savannah with the Air Force. They married on March 24, 1950. They were married 67 years. They had 3 children: Michael, Patricia, and Phillip, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
--She survived cancer and a heart attack, and wet macular degeneration took her sight in her 70s. Parkinson's disease eventually took her life.
