Yes I remember Dr. Bowyer. He had retired before I really was involved with dealing with doctors. I think he was the Doctor dad took me too when I was severely burned when I was only 2 or 3 years old.
His office was upstairs on the corner across from the court house. The bottom floor was a bank back in the "old days" even before I can remember it. The lower part of that building is now a law office. They are connected to the Opera House. Some years ago the Opera House was being renovated and some of the small rooms used by Dr. Bowyer were converted to dressing rooms to be used by the Opera House. I was doing the electrical for the renovation. While up stairs one day I ran across Dr. Bowyer's sign laying in the hall. I started to get it but thought best I not do that. I didn't come back the next day but when I did come back, it was gone. I wish now I had gotten it as I could not find out who got it.

Ron, I lived next door to Dr. and Mrs. Bowyer in the mid 1940;s and was a patient of his from time to time. Growing up with what now seems like primitive medicine during WWII with limited medical resources was a challenge. Dr. Duff, the town's younger general practitioner had been drafted into the army. Fortunately, we had one semi-retired doctor left in town, our next door neighbor, Otis McDonald Bowyer, M.D. Fortunately, he was able to tend to me when I really needed it- broken arm, etc. He drove a beautiful Cadillac, and she grew the most beautiful tulips in her flower bed next to the street. I didn't realize at that time how expensive tulip bulbs were; I only knew they were the only garden in Anson that had them. I loved to read, and when I discovered he had a stack of old True Crime magazines in his usually open garage, I slipped into the "reading room" every chance I got.
His brother, John St. Clair Bowyer. DDS also practiced in Anson. I just googled Dr. Bowyer, found his father's obituary and realized that he had married my great uncle, William Alfred CARR's widow, Julia A. Knox Carr. Therefore, Dr. Bowyer's half siblings were my distant cousins. I grew up knowing I was related or connected in some strange way to half the people in town. I just didn't know who or how. Or as my 3rd cousin 1 x removed, John Parish Spraberry, put it, you're not only related, you are usually related in about three different ways.
