Walters - Mr. Warren “Hoss” Don Cartwright was born on June 13, 1948 in Rubottom, OK to Mr. Walter Emmit Cartwright and Mrs. Beatrice Louise (Eakins) Cartwright. He departed this life Saturday, November 25, 2017 at his home in Walters. Graveside services with military honors are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Alma Cemetery with Gary Thurman and Kent Simpson officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander-Gray Funeral Home in Velma.

Mr. Cartwright was raised in the Velma area graduating from Velma High School with the class of 1966. In January of 1968 Hoss was drafted into the United States Army and served in combat during the Vietnam War. He received a bronze star and two purple hearts for his dedicated service. Hoss received his cleet certificate in 1976 and had worked for the Stephens and Carter County Sheriff Departments and also as a police officer for Duncan and Walters Police Departments. Mr. Cartwright was self employed for many years as a welder. At one time he had worked for the United States Postal Service in Oklahoma City. He was always known for doing things his way and could do anything he wanted to do. He was a man that lived life and had no bucket list. He was a cowboy and enjoyed roping, riding his horses and was a member of the Walters Round Up Club. Hoss enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Cartwright was a founding member and elder at Beaver Creek Cowboy Church.

Preceding him in death are his Parents; brother, Dale Cartwright; and a sister, Gaylan Kilgore.

Survivors include his son, Leland Cartwright of Walters; daughter, Lana Seargeant and husband David of Houston, TX; brother, Waylon Cartwright and wife Debbie of Elgin, TX; sisters, Gayle Henson of Leander, TX, Rita Ingram of Kansas, Lola Bartling and husband Jerry of Velma, and Diane Bass and husband Jim of Dripping Springs, TX; several grandchildren and three great grandchildren; Many other relatives and a host of friends.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Tim Vandagriff, Kenny Glenn, Leroy Anderson, Steve Blanton, Mickey Grissom, Leslie Presgrove, Skeet Chapman, Shorty Carter, Roy Simms, and Jerry Bartling.

Family visitation/memorial services will be 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Beaver Creek Cowboy Church in Duncan. The funeral home will be open from 10 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday for viewing.
