Glenda Moss, 83, of Lake Charles passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 in the residence of her close friends in Kenner, LA.

Glenda was born on October 14, 1934 in Lake Charles where she was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and attended McNeese College. She began dancing before the age of three with Sue Farrior Kimbrough and later studied with Judith Sproule in Beaumont who had the most influence on her love for dance. They encouraged her to join the wonderful organization of Dance Masters of America and become certified to teach which led her to open and operate Glenda Moss Academy of Dance for 62 years.

Glenda was a beloved member of Dance Masters of America Inc. for 61 years. During this time she served the organization on the Board of Directors for 20 years, on its Executive Committee for over 15 years and it's Advisory Board for 10 years. She was elected President of DMA and served from 1994 until 1996 and Past President from 1996 until 1998. Glenda continued to contribute to the advancement of the organization, its chapters, and its members and was recognized in 2014 with the Dance Masters of America's Life Time Achievement Award.

Dance Education was one of Glenda's most passionate values and in that endeavor she spent countless hours as the Chair of the Exam Certification Committee, a program that certified dance teachers in the Art of Dance.

Her last and greatest achievement was to author the DMA Acrobatic Manual which will be used to train educators in the correct techniques to teach a subject which she truly loved.

Glenda leaves behind a superior legacy as many of her students are now teaching or dancing professionally and several former students are now DMA members.

Those left to cherish her memory are cousins, Elaine and Lorraine Fazzio, Shirley Sims, and Dr. Michael Sims and family all of Lake Charles; close friends and adopted family, Debbie and Frank Watson of Kenner, Marvadine Gilman, and Doug and Barbara Gilman all of Lake Charles; Godchildren, Ryan Watson (Rebecca) of Metairie and Tyler Watson (Julie) of Baton Rouge; and those that affectionately knew her as "Gigi", Amelia and Avery Watson as well as numerous dancers in the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena "Skeet" Broussard Moss and Glenn "Pistol" Marshall Moss.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Danny Torres will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Consolata Cemetery Mausoleum under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 9:00 AM until leaving for the church at 11:00 AM.

Glenda's goal was always "If I could train a little child to walk a little straighter, what sweeter music could I hear, than mere mention of his name."
