Professional Football Player. He played the offensive guard position for both the National Football League's Chicago/St. Louis Cardinals and the Houston Oilers from 1958 to 1970. He played football collegiately at Howard Payne University where he earned All Lone Star Conference honors and was named to the Little All-American team. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 1958 NFL Draft, but instead signed with the NFL's Chicago Cardinals. He played for the Cardinals for the next twelve seasons, moving with the team to St. Louis in 1960. During his tenure with the Cardinals, he was selected by his teammates as a team captain, was selected to play in seven NFL Pro Bowls and was named to the All-Cardinals team. In 1970 he joined the Houston OIlers for one year before retiring after the season. After retiring, he continued in football, first as a high school coach and then as an assistant with the NFL's Denver Broncos during the 1977 season. He later went back to coaching high school football in the 1980s. During and after his football career, he helped manage his family's hog farm. He was inducted in to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
