History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography, By Thomas McAdory Owen and Marie Bankhead Owen, vol. 3, p. 883: "INGE, FRANCIS, planter, was born about 1780, in North Carolina, and died in Greene County; son of Richard, sr., and Sally (Johnson) Inge; brother of Dr. Richard, William Marshall, and John Johnson Inge and half-brother of Robert Sturdivant and Lt. Zebulon Montgomery Pike Inge. He was educated in the common schools of North Carolina, and became a planter. In 1821, he accompanied his father's family to Alabama, where they settled in Tuscaloosa as pioneer citizens and engaged in extensive planting. He won the title of major in the Mexican War. He was a Democrat. Married: about 1815, to Rebecca Coke Williams, of North Carolina. Children: 1. Samuel W., m. Miss Hill of Greene County; 2. Richard; 3. Francis Decatur; 4. John Henry; 5. William Murphy, m. Augusta Evans, of Mississippi, a cousin of Augusta Evans Wilson, author; 6. George. Last residence: Greene County."
