Services Set Thursday for Mrs. Lena Steffen.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran church in Britt for Mrs. Lena Steffen, 86, well-known pioneer resident of the county. Rev. Paul W. Adix will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Boughton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Lena Steffen, daughter of Gerhard and Marie Ahrenholtz, Prull, was born May 30, 1877, at Schweinebreuch, Germany. At the age of two she came to America with her parents, brothers, and sisters. The family settled in Butler county near Parkersburg. She received her education there and later the family moved to a farm near Kanawha.
In 1896 she was united in marriage to Ludwig Steffen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Steffen, the wedding taking place at Kanawha. The couple established their home on a farm three miles north. Blessing the home were two daughters and a son, Marie, Sena, and Louis.
On Feb. 14, 1902, the family circle was broken for the first time when Mr. Steffen passed away. Later Mrs. Steffen moved to Britt and established a new home. She did nursing in the community for many years. She was a member of the First Lutheran church and the American Lutheran Church Woman's Society. On Oct. 4, 1954, the son, Louis, met with accidental death while doing construction work Sunday afternoon at the Bethany home.
Mrs. Steffen passed away Sunday at the Bethany Rest Home at Clear Lake where she has resided the past year. She attained the age of 86 years, 8 month, and 10 days. She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Guy (Marie) Christensen and Sena Steffen, Britt; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister and two brothers; Mrs. Anna Johnson and John Prull, Loveland, Colo., Louis Prull, Redwood Falls, Minn.
In addition to her husband, son, and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters: Charles, George, William, Henry and Fritz Prull; Sena, then Mrs. Fred Wellner; Mary, then Mrs. Otto Wellner.
