The daughter of Captain William Thomas and Priscilla Cotton Thomas. Sarah was born in Davidson County, Tennessee and her grandparents were Allen Cotton and Mary Rogers of Davidson County, Tennessee. She married Robert Buttry (Also spelled Buttery) on 21 November 1844 in White County, Illinois. That union produced three children:

John H. Buttry (My 2nd Great Grandfather)
William A. Buttry
George Buttry

After the death of her first husband, Robert Buttry, she then married Thomas D. Collard on 19 March 1854 also at White County, Illinois. That marriage begat four children:

Isabelle Collard
James M. Collard
Robert Collard
Thomas H. Collard

Thomas D. Collard died on 30 August 1864 at Vicksburg, Mississippi on active service while serving with Company M, 5th Illinois Cavalry during the American Civil War. She then married Daniel Branch on 2 August 1864. The children from that marriage were:

Melissa Branch
Sarah E. Branch
Priscilla Branch

She later divorced Daniel Branch on 24 December 1906 at Carmi, Illinois. Her descendants are numerous and span the globe.
