Hummel, Josie Tipton age 93 of Knoxville, formerly of Alcoa and Chilhowee, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2003. She was a member of Green Meadow United Methodist Church, a Graduate of Maryville College. She and her husband were owners and operators of Hummel General Store in Chilhowee. She was an Active Businesswoman of Blount County. She served on the Board of Directors of Blount National Bank of Maryville. Preceded in death by: Parents, Noah and Nancy Tipton; Husband, Fred J. Hummel; Three infant children; Grandson, Marty Hummel; Brothers, Dock, Harrison, Marion and Marvie Tipton; Sisters, Harriett Watson, Samantha Everett, Mellie Whitehead and Laura Whitehead. Survivors include: Sons and Daughters in law, Fred (Fritz) and Linda Hummel, Robert and Delores Hummel; Daughter, Marie Hummel Ledgerwood; Daughter and Son in law, Suzanne and Jim Hartsell; Grandchildren, Rocky Hummel and wife Gay, Carol Ledgerwood, Michele Hummel, Melanie Monroe and husband Mike, Lindsey and Zane Hartsell; Great Grandchildren, Jonathan Hummel, Benjamin and Katelin Monroe. Funeral service will be at 8:00 PM, Friday, September 12, 2003 in the West Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to: Alzheimers Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1000, Chicago, IL 60611 9501, Green Meadow United Methodist Church or to your favorite charity.
