Dumas Payne, 91, of Xenia, IL, died at 3:38 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was born August 16, 1915 in La Garto, Texas to William and Clara (Boyd) Payne. He married Tressie Helen Asher on June 28, 1941 in Hillsboro, MO. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2002.

He was a retired timber buyer, retiring in 1976 from Brown Forman Distillers. He was a member of Oak Mound Christian Church. Dumas also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, mushroom hunting, and spotting timber. He was a former elder and pastor, as well as, a WWII Army veteran for which he received a Purple Heart.

He is survived by two sons: Mitch (Vicki) Payne of Xenia, IL, Randy (Donna) Payne of Xenia, IL; three daughters: Barb (John) Kemper of Marshall, IL, Marilyn (Steve) Kimbrel of Canton, OH, Bonnie Sue (Don) Allen of Xenia, IL; a brother: Austin Payne of Norfolk, AR; two sisters: Volta Beavers of Norfolk, AR, Florine Perry of Oakridge, TN; 11 Grandchildren; seven Great Grandchildren; and one Great Great Grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant son: Richard Wayne Payne; a grand daughter: Sara Beth; a brother: Elmo Payne; a half brother: A.O. Payne; and a sister: Thelma Horton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 23, 2007 at Oak Mound Christian Church in Xenia, IL. Burial will take place at Oak Mound Cemetery in Xenia. Visitation wil be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service, Friday, March 23, 2007 at the church.

Frank & Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
