Ruth Thornton, 95, formerly of Colona, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Kahl Home, Davenport. Funeral services are 10:30 AM Monday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-6 PM Sunday (Today) at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3PM. Memorials may be made to the Women's Choice Center or for masses.

Ruth Rofrano was born March 24, 1922 in Greenburgh, New York, the daughter of Albert and Madaline (Paraset) Rofrano. She married Chuck Thornton on February 14, 1946 in Brooklyn. He died July 1, 2000. She was a WAC during WWII for the US Army. She retired in the early 1980's from the Rock Island Arsenal. Ruth was great at everything she did, from oil painting, knitting, to taking out the boys in a Texas Hold'em tournament. She was an avid reader and loved her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Smith, Moline, grandchildren, Christie (Bob) Schilling, LeClaire, IA, Tim (Rita) Smith, Cedar Park, TX, Dana (David) Phillips, Center City, IA, Terry (Betsy) Smith, Spring, TX, Amy (Justin) Mitton, Hillsdale, and Josh (Laura) Smith, Columbia, MO, 36 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren with one on the way and brothers, Bobby (Annette) Rofrano and Albert Rofrano Jr.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters.
