Sterling O. Moore, 86 years young, left us on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois, surrounded by his family. Born September 14, 1931, in Corning, Arkansas, son of Wilson and Millie Moore. Sterling married Norma Soderberg on July 3, 1950, and had two beautiful daughters, Kathy (Lester) Combs and Brenda (Greg) Byers. A gifted and intelligent machinist, he loved working with his hands and, as a lover of birds, especially redbirds, he took to woodworking making beautiful birdhouses in retirement. He loved spending time with the boys, shooting the breeze and shooting pool. But even more, he loved, and took great pride in his family, bragging about them whenever he had a chance. An avid lifelong camper and gardener, he taught us all to love travel and to appreciate the little things in life. Sterling was a model of determination, having survived much physical and emotional hardship over the years, and he was always the strongest man we ever knew; if not physically, mentally. To know Sterling was to love him and we will all miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma Moore; son-in-law, Greg Byers; grandchildren, Dave (Mary) Hocking, Brian Combs, Chris (Michelle) Anderson and Carey (Jeff) Bown; great-grandchildren, Austin, Aidan and Ava Hocking, Alyson and Austin Anderson and Brooke Bown.

Predeceased by his parents, brothers, sisters, and his daughters, both of whom were taken too soon and we're sure he is giving them some long overdue sugar.

Funeral service was held at Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111

Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
