Janice Kay Shear was born November 18, 1954 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Randall and Harriette (Smith) Shear. She was raised in Akron, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from Akron High School.

She was united in marriage to Dennis Rider on August 4, 1973 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They made their home in the Siouxland area. Janice worked as a cook for various restaurants, most notably, the Glass Palace in Sioux City. They later divorced.

She married Allen Terrell on March 12, 2008 in Elk Point while Janice was living in North Sioux City. Janice retired due to her health. They later divorced. Janice moved to Le Mars in 2014 to be closer to her family.

Through the years, she enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos. She also enjoyed going boating on the river and socializing with her friends and family. But most of all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Gulbronson (Dean Sampson) of Merrill, IA, and her children: Brandon, Lance, and Cameron; a son: Terry Rider of Sioux City, IA; her siblings: Joyce Shear of Lincoln, NE, Howard (Debra) Shear of Cherokee, IA, Jeanne (Vince) Marrow of Le Mars, IA, Julie Marshall of Le Mars, IA, and Henry (Pat) Shear of Elgin, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings: Harold “Butch” Shear and Judy Vandenberg; and a nephew, Jonathon Marshall.
