U.S. Minister to Ecuador, Journalist, Attorney. Friederich, who was better known as Frederick, was born in Vienna, Austria to Frank and Jane Hassaurek. He served in the German Revolution of 1848 and was wounded twice before fleeing to the United States in 1848. He was Ohio's delegate to the new Republican Party's National Convention in 1860 and 1868. He was appointed by President Abraham Lincoln as the U.S. Minister to Ecuador and served in that role from 1861 to 1866. He then became the editor of the Cincinnati Volksblatt. He died from melanosis while in Paris, France in 1885 five days before what would have been his 53rd birthday. He was also the half-brother of Cincinnati Mayor, Leopold Markbriet and the father of Lieut. Frank Hassaurek, who was killed during the Philipine-American War in 1899.
