Brenda Kay Patterson, 63 of Capitol Hill Road and formerly of Furnace Road, both of Waynesboro, PA, died Saturday morning, November 25, 2017, in her home. Born June 1, 1954 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Kathryn (Speidel) Patterson of Waynesboro and the late Clarence Patterson. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area. Brenda worked at Connie Sportswear, Waynesboro and various local apple orchards. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, both of Waynesboro, and the former Tomstown Social Club. Brenda enjoyed playing bingo. In addition to her mother, she is survived by one sister, Judy Patterson of Waynesboro; three brothers, Bill Patterson, Lawrence “Gook” Patterson, and Richard “Scruff” Patterson, all of Waynesboro; her step-son, Terry Smetzer of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her longtime companion, George R. Smetzer, who died on November 22, 2013; and one brother, Norman “June” Patterson. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Terry Ulrich officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home.
