Ole Ysen 1862-1938

Ole Ysen, 76 years of age and a resident of Popple Township for many years, passed away quietly in his home Friday, March 29, after a week's illness.
Mr. Ysen was born March 5, 1862 in Norway. He came to the United States when he was twelve years old with his mother, Two sisters and three brothers. They settled in Lake Park, Baker County, and several years later they moved to Norman County. There he met and December 8, 1885 married Mary Larson. Mr. and Mrs. Ysen lived there six years and then moved to the present home in Popple. Their union was blessed with twelve children, four of whom preceded their father in death. Those living all reside in this county. They are Bernard of Shevlin, Mrs. A. H. Halvorson (Clara), Mrs. Victor Anderson (Thea), Ludwig, Carl, Ole, Selmer, and Adolph of this community.
Mr. and Mrs. Ysen were hard working pioneers. They built up a nice home here. In 1928 they lost their barn and over thurty head of fine stock by fire. In spite of this misfortune they carried on, building another fine big barn and restocking it. Mr. Ysen was ahard working dairy farmer till the fall of 1932 when he was stricken with rheumatism from which he never recovered. He was very uncomplaining and patient in spite of the fact that his last years were spent in a wheel chair and he suffered much. He was a loyal member and trustee of the Grans Lutheran Church and devoted believer in his Saviour, a good neighbor and homest, upright man in all his dealings.
Tuesday afternoon he was laid to rest in Grans Cemetery. The large crowd of friends and relatives testified to the respect his fellowmen felt for him. The pallbearers were Jim Anderson, Willie Vogel, Pete Hohnson, Martin Willborg, Rudy Larson and Bernard Olson. The Peterson Funeral Service was in charge and Rev. Guldberg of Fosston delivered the funeral service.
He leaves to mourn, besides his widow and eight children, twenty nine grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, oen brother, Matin, of Gary, one sister, Mrs. Hannah Milsten of Fosston and a host of other relatives and friends.
