Harold B. Atchley, 92, of Glen Carbon, and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:31 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born February 28, 1925 in Graff, Missouri, a son of the late Hayden and Pearle (Tate) Atchley.
He had married Wanda (Camp) Atchley in 1944 in Granite City and she passed away in 1983.
He had retired in 1980 as a technician with the Army Material Command with over 37 years of Civil Service. He had also worked in real estate for approximately 10 years.
The United States Army Air Corp veteran proudly served his country during World War II. He was an avid baseball fan and was a talented maker of rugs, lamps, paintings and frames.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, Georgia and Kenton Smith of Granite City, Terry and Mary Atchley of Granite City, Daryl and Maria Atchley of O'Fallon, Missouri and Duane and Tammy Atchley of Alton; five grandchildren, Kendra Suhling-Pesek of Woodland, Texas, Joseph Atchley of St. Louis, Missouri, Jeffrey Atchley of Lindale, Texas, Jacob Atchley of Wood River and Amanda Atchley of Elkville, Illinois; three great grandchildren, Emery Pesek, Elijah Johnson and Jeremy Atchley; a sister and brother-in-law, Berma and John Patrich of Collinsville; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, William Atchley and a sister, Berniece Meyer.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m with Reverend Charles West officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Worden City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army and may be accepted at the funeral home.
