NEW BERN - Tina left this earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father on November 13, 2017 following an extended illness. She was born on April 29, 1957 and was the first child of the late James and Janet Hunter of West Virginia. She was later followed in the family by three siblings whom she adored.
Tina was born in Warren, Ohio and later moved to West Virginia with her parents where she lived until adulthood. Thereafter she moved to Florida for seventeen years, dwelled in South Carolina for three years, and then resided in North Carolina for the past seventeen years of her marriage.
Surviving are her husband, Woodrow West of New Bern, and one son, Chad Hunter of Charlotte. Her family also included three grandchildren who were the love of her life, one brother, Jeff Hunter and his wife Pam of West Virginia, sister Regina Nida of West Virginia, and sister, Valarie Elswick and her husband Jimmy of Charlotte, NC. Several nieces and nephews complete her family.
Tina's greatest love was for her family where she often spoke of her husband saying "I love him with all my heart". She kept in close contact with her sisters despite the great differences in travel time and of course her son and grandchildren, Anthony, Gracie, and Grant. Tina delighted in being dressed for success and enjoyed the sunshine often seeking the earlier rays for her summer tan. Adventures such as riding the motorcycle with Woody, or bicycling around the community were highlights of her life although she often settled down with a good book. Woody and Tina were virtually inseparable in the years of their marriage and were best friends as well as spouses. Additionally, Tina was a true patriot and supporter of the men and women who served our great country.
Tina's career was within the business world where she worked in various business offices including medical and governmental. She was employed at MCAS Cherry Point for sixteen years where she could enjoy her business acumen and actively support the military men and women whom she greatly admired.
Pastor Joyce Swimm will conduct a private ceremony which will be held this week and cards or condolences may be sent to her home in New Bern or expressed through the on- line registry at www.cottenfuneralhome.com
Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
