Peter Harry Cantrell was born on Sink Creek, Warren Co., now part of DeKalb Co. TN. He married (1) Sarah Green, May 5, 1858, they had one son. She died August 24, 1860. He married (2) Elizabeth Purser Nov 11, 1865. He died on his 70th birthday and was buried from the Concord Baptist Church.

He enlisted in Co. A, Capt. L. N. Savage, CSA. Was in the battle at Perryville, KY. At Murfreesboro, TN, he had his kneecap knocked out of place by a minié ball. Was taken prisoner at Missionary Ridge in 1863 and confined at Rock Island, IL until the close of the war. Was a farmer and lived for many years near McMinnville, TN.

To describe what knocked out his kneecap, here is an article that describes the type of bullet:

The Minié ball, or Minni ball, is a type of muzzle-loading spin-stabilized bullet for rifled muskets named after its developer, Claude-Étienne Minié, inventor of the French Minié rifle. It came to prominence in the Crimean War and American Civil War. Rifling, the addition of spiral grooves inside a gun barrel, imparts a spin to a bullet, greatly increasing the range and accuracy of a gun. en.wikipedia.org

NOTE: To date (2020) the discovery of the burial location of his parents, Green and Mary Cantell, has not been located.

A suggestion by another researcher indicates that his Mother may be Martha "Mary Polly" Cantrell (1824-1888) daughter of Benjamin Cantrell and Charity Legat.
