She married William Richard Newton at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Illinois on June 10, 1961. Ruth grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois graduating from Glenbard High School in 1959. She graduated in 1964 from Carthage College Carthage, Illinois where she met Bill. She was a supportive farm wife and loving mother and grandmother who was very involved in her family's lives.
She was active in various groups including: Hancock County Republican Women PEO and Monday Study Club and Southeast Iowa Parkinson's Support Group. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church Nauvoo, Illinois and had worked outside the home at Dana Bushong Jewelers. Ruth served others in many ways including Sonora Township Election Board, American Red Cross Blood Drive, Christ Lutheran Church secretary and Sunday school teacher and various other church school and community activities.
Survived by her husband Bill; their four children: Bill (Pam) Newton Jr. of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Cynthia (Kirk) Barlow of Apache Junction, Arizona; Laura (JW) Stinson of Powellton, Illinois; John (Monica) Newton of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; their thirteen grandchildren: Jason (Nicole) Crowner of Carrboro, North Carolina; Matthew (fiancé Brandy Buchanan; Blake Gage and Braxton Scott Crowner of Nauvoo, Illinois; Bradley (Jessica) Moffitt of Ft. Riley, Kansas; Brennan Moffitt of St. Louis, Missouri; Jackalyn Jack Samuel John and James Stinson of Powellton, Illinois; Benjamin Zachary Paige and Megan Newton of Mt. Pleasant Iowa.
